Rogart Parish Church

stcallanschurch

Until recently there were services held in the two Church of Scotland churches within the parish but the congregation has now taken the decision recently to use only St. Callan’s church and Pitfure church has recently been sold.

Approval was granted by Sutherland Presbytery and the Church of Scotland General Trustees to build a small extension to St Callan’s to provide a small hall/meeting room, modern kitchen and fully accessible toilet facilities. Currently, due to the major changes being made in the parishes of the Church of Scotland this project has not progressed.

St. Callan’s Church is 1½ miles north of Pittentrail, which is at the centre of the parish of Rogart. The present church dates from the eighteenth century, although it is believed that the site has been used as a place of Christian worship since the seventh century. We are pleased to welcome many overseas visitors who come to see the beauty of our church and are sometimes tracing their family tree.

Services are held on alternate Sundays. On 2nd and 4th Sunday each month there is a service at 11.00am at St Callans. On 1st and 3rd Sundays the service is in Lairg Parish Church. Separate announcements are made regarding services on any month with a 5th Sunday

The congregation enjoys a warm relationship with Free Church, which includes a fortnightly Bible study. We have some joint services, usually in the village hall for Easter and Christmas, and at the old auction Mart as part of the annual Gala weekend celebrations.  A prayer breakfast is held in the Pittentrail Inn each month which is attended by many from both within and without the parish. There is also a small A.P.C Church in the parish.

The annual gift day, which is held in May in the village hall, is a very popular event with the whole community and is always very well supported.

The children from Rogart Primary school come to special services in the church at Easter, Harvest and Christmas.

Rogart’s Charity No. Is SC010035.  The parish number is 402262.
